Thought I'd promote two amazing resources we plan to utilize. Sequatchie Cove Farm is just 6 miles away, and the Sequatchie Valley Institute is 14 miles.
Another of the "amenities" about which I am most excited to have is an over the sink dish drying rack. For reasons I cannot even begin to fathom, I have never seen one in an American kitchen. What's up with that? Such a brilliant idea.
Of all the crazy stuff we're doing, folks seem most concerned with the fact that we won't have flush toilets. The first time I heard of a sawdust toilet, I was intrigued. The first time I used one, I was convinced. I just finished reading "The Humanure Handbook" by Joseph Jenkins (check out his essay Humanure Sanitation), and I am more assured than ever that those "advanced" civilizations who poo in drinking water are really the crazy ones. Every time I flush a toilet I watch a little piece of my soul swirl away into the sewage abyss.
